Job description:
VHIO is seeking to incorporate a Head of Legal to provide strategic and expert legal leadership in support of its international research and innovation activities in oncology. The role is responsible for structuring, negotiating, and overseeing complex collaborations, while safeguarding the institution’s interests in contractual, intellectual property, and regulatory matters, and ensuring full compliance with the legal frameworks governing biomedical research.
The main responsibilities for the Head of Legal include:
Lead the drafting, negotiation, and review of a wide range of research-related agreements, including collaboration, IP, licensing, and commercial contracts.
Provide legal and regulatory advice to researchers and institutional teams, ensuring compliance and effective risk management in biomedical and oncology research.
Oversee regulatory compliance across the institution, with a particular focus on intellectual property, clinical research, and data protection.
Act as a legal partner to support departments such as Finance, Project Management, HR, and Quality, advising on legal developments impacting their activities.
Review and monitor data protection policies of the institution and coordinate with VHIO’s DPO to implement policies and agreement templates.
Supervise and review clinical trial agreements, both for VHIO as a recruiting site and for academic trials sponsored by VHIO in Spain and across Europe.
Required Qualifications:
Law degree, with a specialization in Administrative Law, Compliance, Intellectual Property, Data Protection, or International Business Law.
Additional Qualifications:
Solid knowledge of pharmaceutical and healthcare law.
Fluent in English, Catalan, and Spanish, both written and spoken.
Previous experience in biomedical research, clinical research, or innovation-driven environments.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience as in-house legal advisor at, or external counsel for a pharmaceutical or biomedical organization, in the private or public sector, but mainly focused on international research and development projects.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary, non-legal teams.
Strong hands-on, solution-oriented approach, focused on pragmatic and effective legal advice.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in complex environments, demonstrating resilience, commitment, and a strong client-service mindset.

Conditions:
📝Permanent contract.
